Drug checking service (SAS)

Report on samples checked from August to October 2022

In August, September, and October we maintained our partnerships with Spectre de Rue, TRAC (in Verdun), Maison Benoit-Labre, and Dopamine’s supervised consumption site.

In addition, we started partnerships with PIaMP and Rap Jeunesse, and re-launched our partnership with the Hôtel-Dieu shelter (we are there every Tuesday from 7-10pm, but check our schedule to confirm).

From August to October, our drug checking service was present at many festive events, such as Ile-Soniq, Fierté, Lasso, Picnik Electronik, MUTEK, The Jardins Gamelin, and some raves (if you or someone you know would like to have us at their event, contact us :) ).

Here we present our report and data from drug checking we performed from August to October 2022 using three types of drug checking technologies: colorimetric reagents, fentanyl and benzodiazepine strips, and infrared spectrometry (FT-IR).

Due to the limitations of our hours and locations of operation, as well as our technologies, the results of our report likely do not represent the true composition of drugs in the unregulated Montreal market.

Key points

  • During this period, we checked 252 samples.
  • Tiletamine was detected in two samples, one of cocaine and one of ketamine. Tiletamine is a dissociative analgesic that has similar effects as ketamine, but may last much longer.
  • Two samples that were thought to be fentanyl contained benzodiazepine(s) instead.
  • In one sample of supposed 2C-B we detected caffeine, ketamine, and fillers instead
