Report on samples analyzed from October 2021 to December 2021
On October 21, 2021, GRIP’s mobile substance analysis service finally launched the first phase of the project. The SAS will initially operate one day a week in the Plateau-Mont-Royal area of Montreal in partnership with the organization Plein Milieu. The service is for anyone who uses drugs and wants to know more about what they are using. The service is offered free of charge, anonymously and confidentially.
We use three types of testing technologies: colorimetric reagents, fentanyl and benzodiazepine strips, and infrared spectrometry (FT-IR).
This is our first report, which presents the results of our drug checking service for the period October through December 2021. Due to the limitations of our hours and locations of operation, as well as our drug testing technologies, the results of our report likely do not represent the true composition of drugs in the unregulated Montreal market. However, the report shows that many samples contained unexpected components and some samples did not contain the expected substance at all.
Key points
- During this period we analyzed 27 samples.
- The samples were varied, from cocaine to MDMA to heroin.
- In one sample of MDMA, we found a cathinone (bath salts).
- In the two samples of smack, we detected fentanyl and benzos.
