Report on samples checked in June and July 2022

In June and July we maintained our partnerships with Spectre de Rue, Centre SIDA-Secours, Maison Benoit-Labre, and Dopamine’s supervised consumption site.

We began offering our service in collaboration with TRAC’s supervised consumption site in Verdun, and at the TamTams of Mount Royal. In addition, we have offered drug checking at Parc Jean-Drapeau outside of Osheaga and in collaboration with several raves (if you or someone you know would like to have us at their event, contact us :) )

Here we present our report and data from the analyses we performed in June and July 2022 using three types of analytical technologies: colorimetric reagents, fentanyl and benzodiazepine strips, and infrared spectrometry (FT-IR).

Due to the limitations of our hours and locations of operation, as well as our technologies, the results of our report likely do not represent the true composition of drugs in the unregulated Montreal market.

Key points

During this period, we checked 116 samples.
Multiple samples were not what they were expected to be. For example, one sample that was expected to be MDMA was found to be N-ethylpentylone (a cathinone or ”bath salt”), and one sample thought to be Vyvanse (a stimulant) was found to be a benzodiazepine (a depressant).
In 45 samples of MDMA, 20% did not contain MDMA, and we found no relationship between the colour of the MDMA and the identity of the substances in the samples.
